Q™sensor (beta)

Wireless and comfortable

The Affectiva Q Sensor is a wearable, wireless biosensor that measures emotional arousal via skin conductance, a form of electrodermal activity that grows higher during states such as excitement, attention or anxiety and lower during states such as boredom or relaxation. The sensor also measures temperature and activity.

Market research and product-testing: Easily access objective, scientific data to measure emotional response and gain customer insight.

Clinical research and stress management: Collect objective measures of sympathetic nervous system activation during a patient’s everyday activities (including sleep).

Wireless and wearable so participants aren't tethered to a computer or stuck in a lab

Small and comfortable so participants can wear it without distraction

  • Washable wristband so you can use it in daily life
  • An onboard event button lets you mark times of significant experiences
  • An onboard clock so you can easily synchronize data with other systems
  • A three-dimensional motion sensor indicates when and how you were moving
  • Measures temperature so you can control for environmental influences
  • You can snap in standard medical electrodes to compare to traditional sensors
  • Logs one to four months of data for long-term data collection
  • Comes with easy to use software for viewing, comparing, and annotating data
  • Works easily with a PC or Mac (just needs a USB port to plug in)
  • Rechargeable battery lasts at least 24 hours
  • Works with dry electrodes, so no more gooey mess
  • Put it on to turn it on (most often worn on wrist or above ankle)

The Q Sensor's simplicity and portability vastly increases the ways you can take measurements:

  1. Put on the sensor to activate it.
  2. Push green button to mark events.
  3. Take it off to turn off.
  4. Plug it into computer with its USB cable when you want to upload data or to charge it.
  5. Affectiva software lets you visualize, align, compare, and analyze your data.

Autism sleep disorder study: Children in a sleep center are wearing Q Sensor to provide information on their arousal and waking patterns in order to better understand effective treatments.

Retail shopping: Customers wear the Q Sensor while shopping in a popular electronics store. The sensor peaks when the customer’s attention peaks. This information helps reveal what matters to customers while shopping

Advertising: Prospective customers wear the Q Sensor to reveal the parts of the advertisements that are most exciting (autonomic arousal is also predictive of memory and attention.)

Stress management: Professionals in a high-pressure call center wear the Q Sensor to understand their stress throughout the day. They identify peak stress situations and measure the effectiveness of methods to reduce stress. This is done in a way that protects the professionals’ personal data and (if a sufficiently large group opts in) presents anonymized information to management.
